Acting as a runner’s guide to the city, it documents local routes, stories, and community through a playful and curious lens. Runaway Magazine
'RUNAWAY' is a design-led magazine that celebrates the culture, style, and spirit of running — with a spotlight on Melbourne’s unique running scene. This edition serves as a runner’s guide to the city, offering a curated mix of local routes, stories, and community insights. Created as my graduate showcase piece, Runaway is both a reflection of my design practice and a love letter to the city’s running culture.
What began as a loose idea developed into a publication shaped by deep research, local knowledge, and a strong visual identity. From playful illustrations to intimate photography and compelling writing, the magazine captures a moment in time — what it feels like to run through Melbourne right now.
Inspired by independent sports magazines and guided by a 24x24 grid system, the layout is designed to be harmonious and intuitive, balancing type, image, and negative space. I drew from typographic principles by Tschichold and Bayer to achieve a clean, structured, yet dynamic look and feel.
Content curation involved working with Melbourne-based writers and photographers, with multiple test prints shaping the final outcome. Careful adjustments to point sizes, margins, and image placements ensured readability and visual cohesion.
Runaway invites readers to explore the sport beyond just performance — celebrating curiosity, motivation, and community, all while showcasing the culmination of my design journey.
